So I now to get it back to a dark ash blonde base, I had to dye it several times, leaving my hair very dry and my scalp very itchy. What do you suggest to relieve both. I have left intensive therapy conditioners/hair masques on far longer than the recommended time ..but really to no avail. My hair is short already...so do not say cut it! Please help!

What i would suggest is getting the product Keraste...i believe its called. Its for colored hair that has...been through alot of coloring. Its absoultly amazing. Worked for me.

For the scalp, if you can't find the above, use neutrogena t gel. It really smells but it will make your scalp feel so much better.

I hair model, so i get my hair died once a month at least. I had the same problem until i did the neutrogena 2x a week for a week, then the keraste (sp?) which has a mask and a leave in conditioner. AMAZING.

put some serum like for frizz in your hair when u style it . the next time u put the intensive conditioner in your hair wrap it in a shower cap and then put heat on it like your hair dryer for about 15 minutes

It depends on your skin color if you are light deep red would be ok but if your skin is dark then burgundy would be great.

Why not try a temporary hair color first that will wash out in whatever color you choose, then go for the permanent. It's better than getting stuck with something you regret.

That is a matter of preference.

To make a good decision about it, take a friend YOU TRUST into a Sally's Beauty Supply store. They have hair swatches there in all sorts of colors. Grab a mirror from the mirror bin and use it. Hold up a red swatch close to your face and look at it yourself, then show your friend. Do the same with the burgandy swatch.

You'll get a real 'feel' for what color suits you best. Ask your friend for her opinion and critique yourself. Which color do you like best? If you and your friend disagree over which color to use, then use the color you like. You're the one that has to live with it!

You can always buy a Semi Permanent color to start with. That way if you don't like it, it will fade out in about a month. Then try the other color you liked. That way you'll see what you get first without having to risk using a permanent color.

I can tell you by experience that I will never again dye my hair red. Last year I decided to colour my hair red and not only it faded very quickly (it is common to all kinds of red, and I used special conditioners and shampoos to avoid that) but also when I decided to go back to my natural colour - dark brown - the red colour always shows after a few washes.

I advise you to colour in a hairdresser and pay attention to your skin tone and your natural hair colour, as it interferes with the final results.

I have coloured my hair with both colours - deep red and burgundy - and I preferred by far the burgundy.

I suppose it all depends on what color is your hair now, does it have any other artificial pigments already added to it, do plan to keep the color up or are you planning to change it again soon?... lots of questions... also, what is your skin tone?... very fair people look natural in deep reds with a slightly warm cast but a very dark burgundy can look wonderful but much more extreme and looks better when make is worn to offset cool tones...

burgundy is a deep red but with cool highlight instead of a dark auburn which may be slightly warmer

just remember that if your hair is naturally light it doesn't contain much natural red pigment and the color will fade faster... naturally dark hair may not show the color off to it's fullest potential... if your hair is pretreated then also remember that if you have tinted dark hair color doesn't lift color only bleach can lift it... no matter what your situation is avoid rinsing hair in very warm water, the cooler the better... stay out of the sun or cover your hair... also keep hair out of chlorinated water as this also will leech the color out... try to not shampoo the hair more than every other day to prolong the tone

Use clear tape to mark where you want the color to start. You'll probably want to do it in smaller sections, because the tape needs to be wrapped tightly to help prevent the dye from seeping up the hair. Then carefully apply the dye to the tips of the hair. I've been in the same situation. red as well, eh not a color for hair unless you're born with it i guess. I couldn't wait to get it off, but honestly, you should wait a while because redying it so fast will kill your hair. I'm sure it's not worth grass hair and split ends. but if it is redye it and then put some oil in your hair, it should bring a little more life back. or...you could always stick with the ol' hat trick.

Go to Sally's Beauty Store and ask them if a toner will help tone the color down. I had my hair dyed and it became organgey, but after having a toner applied it changed the color and it was beautiful.

You could have it stripped out but its not good for the hair, I would recommend going back slowly although I do understand your frustration I went dark and then didnt like it but I took my hair dressers advice and just had highlights put in rather than a full colour and gradually I was back to my usual colour.

Well, there is many things you can do...some people said dye stripper or whatever, that may work. I have never heard of it but sounds good. Also you could just bleach it no? Or just dye it back to your natural colour. Also, to be safe ask a hair stylist what they suggest, and they may say go back right away, since they want money, but see if they have other suggestions too since redying it there will cost a lot. You should have tried non-permanent first or just dyed it yourself so you didn't waste all that money.

okay PLEASE don't listen to the unprofessionals that post on this board, most of them talk utter c**p, this as a PROFESSIONAL annoys me. you will first need to use colourfix colour remover as this will remove the artificial pigment out of your hair that the red colour has put in, follow instructions on the pack to a T. you will not revert to your natural colour if you were bleached beforehand, chances are you will return to the colour your hair was bleached to before the red colour (minus the toner of course) if your hair is like this then just a toner put back on it will take your hair to your shade of blonde again. if this doesn't happen then after using the colour remover you will need to bleach, pale yellow is the furthest ANYBODY should ever bleach to. once you are at this stage then you are free to apply your toner, platinum for platinum hair, ash for ash blonde etc.. professional colours are best, i am platinum myself and in order to get this colour (think marilyn monroe) i bleach to pale yellow then tone with vitelity art 10n swedish blonde with 20 vol developer (peroxide) oh and the SILLY person who suggested gradual highlighting is MAD, this over time will cause MUCH more damage than to just fix it right in the first place and then to just purely touch up roots in the future.

Yikes! This is a tough one. Wait- was your hair dyed blonde to begin with or were you a natural blonde? Reds do fade fast and if you were a dyed blonde to begin with it will fade even faster. You could wash it a few times with Dawn dish liquid or pert plus and it will wash some out, but condition your hair really well afterwards.

To get it all out You're gonna need a pro. She'll have to strip out the red and then probably recolor it a shade you want. This will be ultra damaging and I don't recommend it if you were dyed blonde to begin with and expensive.

You could color it to tone down the red to a auburn color. You'll still want to see a pro for that.

You may want to give it a little while to 1 let the red calm down(many times colors are viberant at first and calm down with a washing or two) or 2 to give yourself time to get use to it. That was a drastic change for anyone.

i suggest a brand called "special effects" - blood red

and you must bleach your hair first, and then you put the dye over it.

and whatever you do, do not buy a kit that promises that it will make black hair into red highlights. it will not work.

and if you bleach your hair and it is not all the way blonde, it is ok, because it will not get "BLONDE -BLONDE" if you bleach black hair, but if it is loighter it will work. it is just the texture that counts.

Also, make sure you choose a color that looks good with your skin tone; bring some girl friends with you when you pick out the color, and have them hold it up to your face to see if it looks good with your skintone. You can also always have your hair professionally stripped and dyed, or highlighted, which makes the color(s) look truer, and will help you get a color that matches your skintone well--it's also less messy!

I don't like the way store brand reds cover gray. To me, they don't seem to work very well. I would go to a salon that uses Matrix SoColor or Redken Colorfusion. Both of these brands have awesome reds that are formulated specifically for gray hair. Your stylist will be able to show you lots of different choices to go with your skin tone and eye color. I can't tell you what shade would look good on you because you didn't say what color your eyes were and what skin tone you have. Sorry.

The best way to keep your reds vibrant is to use a sulfate-free shampoo, and a color depositing conditioner such as Aveda Bixa or Annato conditioner. (unfortunatly Aveda doesn't make a sulfate-free shampoo however, the best sulfate-free shampoo I've found is Pureology) Also if you go out into the sun (even if it's winter) you should wear a hat. just get a hair shampoo and conditioner for your chemical treated hair and of course get a hair treatment every once or twice a month from the salon. You also can get a hair mask to do it at home for once or twice a week.

The best bet is to get a shampoo and conditioner specifically made for color treated hair. I use one made by Suave that I have had very good luck with. And, its much less expensive than the designer brands. (I used to use Herbal Essences b/c I thought it would be mild, and a hairdresser told me that that brand could actually strip the color from your hair.)

Also, you want to avoid any bleaching chemicals or acidic products if you can. If you do a lot of swimming, be sure to rinse your hair well afterwards or wear a swim cap. Chlorine can not only make the color fade, it can actually alter the color to something much less attractive.

Other than that, just keep up with the root touch ups. Its much easier than doing the whole thing all over again.

If it's a semi permanent dye (Manic panic, special effects, etc.) then take a tablespoon of the dye and put it in your conditioner then shake it to mix it. When you wash your hair then conditioner(with the color mixed in)will put some color back into your hair which will lengthen the life of your dye job.

You don't have to wait that long, but I would suggest going to a stylist. Red is one of the hardest colors to fix. Depending on what you want to change it to, the stylist might suggest adding hilights or low lights to tone down the red as opposed to bleaching it out and coloring over it. I wouldn't suggest trying to dye over it yourself, you could end up with streaks of different colors or the red and the new color could combine to create something completely different! Good Luck!

Depending on what color you are trying to go back to it can be very difficult. You should check out a local salon. It's usually pretty reasonably priced. It sometimes takes a gradual change or some highlighting/lowlighting to get back to the original color without killing your hair. (Not the best solution, but you could dye your hair twice in one day and as long as you use good products and MOISTURIZE your hair you'll be okay. I have had to do this a couple of times.)

depending on the condition of your hair is how long you should wait to fix it... if your hair is in good condition you can change it after 7 days at the earliest... you should wait 10.. then if it is in bad shape wait a few months.. just remember that red is a hard colour to change.. just dont go and bleach it to go lighter or you will end up with a orange or pink colour.. the best bet is to do a shade darker.. put like a plain brown on it and you will end up with a really nice chestnut brown colour... the red will always come thru.

That all depends on your completion. I wouldn't want to give you some advice and have you looking like a disaster basket at prom. You should find the nearest Bloomies, or Macy's, bring the dress, and get your make-up done, experiment until you get it right and have the make-up artist help you. Have fun sweetie!

stick with shades that compliment your eyes. DO NOT match your dress with makeup. That is so 80's. If your eyes are green, purple hues (not PURPLE, but a hue of it) will make them POP. If blue, stick with nuetrals, and a black or brown liner.

Make it a little dressy, but not too much. And then add a little sparkle somewhere. Not too much, you'll look 10, but a little is perfect for prom.

For lips, keep it simple. Use a gloss, that is sexy but not trashy.

Please be careful if you select a makeup artist; I've yet to have one work on my face who knew what to do with my complexion and coloring. I'm strawberry blonde with grey eyes, light freckled rosy skin, and white eyelashes and brows. I've always come away looking like a drunk mortician did my face up.

The prettiest eye shadows I've found for me have been from Urban Decay: Blunt, Chopper, Twice Baked, and Midnight Cowboy Rides Again can all work separately or together, to create daytime or nighttime looks, and do work for lighter redheads, as well as for those with darker hair and eyes.

Go with a neutral peach or pink for the lips (whichever is best for you), if you're going to play up the eyes. That, and you won't have to fight for space in the bathroom to reapply with a steady hand. :- )

Hmmmm.. ok first off look for a hair color that gives you options for the color levels and tones, i.e. level 5 neutral may look like a 5N on the box. I think Clairol has some lines that do that. If the red keeps happening to you I would think that your hair pulls red/gold so you might want to try a blue or green tone. those would either have a B or an A next to the number. The number just means how light or dark it is 1 being the darkest (usually).

Before you dye it again do a cleansing shampoo with a tablespoon of baking soda mixed with about a tablespoon of shampoo. then condition and leave in for at least 10 minutes and rinse. I would also start using some leave-in conditioners after you color. It sounds like you have colored too much and your hair needs some smoothing and problably a little protein. After you blow dry use a shine serum that will help also. I hope this helps you out.

first cyanne wella doesnt make socolor that is matrix, and you can buy it if you are a liscensed hair stylist. . wella makes color charm , you will need 2 colors a natural base and one with ash if you are medium brown level 4 dont go more than 2 levels lighter than that , and buy 20 volume follow miing and timing that are on the colors if your hair is real porus you may need to leave the color on not as long. also get a good color protect shampoo like paul mitchell color protect. also save up go to a salon if possible

I've dyed my hair a lot over the years, lol. I've done that same thing before, I dyed my hair a dark golden brown, and it turned reddish. Ugh, so I went and bought dark ash brown, and dyed it with that, and it did the trick. So, I'm thinking it will work, because I was in that same situation once, well in your case it's blonde, in mine it was brown. Email me if it works out, and I hope it does. :)

this will work. if your regrowth is lighter, apply it to that first, then go back and put it on the hairshaft and ends and process. you might want to go for a semi permanent, or something called a deposit-only color. the ash should cancel out the red

Go to a beauty school to have them fix it. You don't want to take any chances because even if you use an ash-blond, it's dyeing over red not your original blond so you're not 100% sure what you're gonna get. A beauty school is a better alternative than an expensive salon and trying it yourself at home.

Okay, you can definitely fix it by yourself, but there's a few rules: now that you have dyed it, you don't want to damage the hair even more- you want to get Revlon Colorsilk hair color, very cheap and ammonia-free so it's a dye that doesn't harm your hair as most other brands. Try to stay away from a color with 'ash' in the title, it will make the color more dull and most likely to fail. Try to stay away from semi-permanent colors as they will fade the fastest, then you are stuck back at square one! Usually if you are going lighter to darker, you want to get a color one lighter than the color you want as the hair will grab all the color it can get and might make it darker!!

I dyed my medium to dark brown hair last week with Loreal's Natural Match in shade 5N according to the box my hair was supposed to turn a medium brown shade that brought out my natural highlights. Now my hair is more of dark brassy reddish brown, it doesn't look good at all. Im scared that as the color fades the red is going to show up even more. Im scared to dye it again, but I need to fix this problum. What can I do to get ride of this red or atleast cut out the brassy color.

The reason it is reddish is because your hair was lightened. It WILL NOT "wash out" with shampoo. Recolor it a little darker to cover the red.

If your hair is long you may wanna have it professionally done as it will be hard to get an even color.

Get a clarifying shampoo and wash your hair thoroughly as soon as possible. Follow up with a deep conditioner. Continue to wash and condition your hair every day for one week to remove as much dye and fade the color as much as possible. After 2 weeks if the color is still too red, get a dye thats labeled "warm" hair tone in one shade darker than you WANT to achieve, and color over your current shade.

If you don't minde spending more, go to a salon for "corrective color."

You will not be able to make your hair any lighter with more haircolor, but you can go back and get the Loreal Natural Match in shade 5C. The cool tones in that color will cancel out some of your brassiness.

The first thing I would do is buy the absolute cheapest shampoo you can possible find. Usually it's Suave (not the professionals line). The least expensive the shampoo, the more harsh. This means the color will not stay in long. Your hair may not hold red well anyway. I know mine does not. Wash your hair with the cheap stuff to strip you color but make sure you use a really good quality conditioner. You won't want to damage your hair. Like everyone else has said, you will have to dye it again. This time go with a different brand. If you are looking for something that gives you highlights also then you should try L'Oreal's Couleur Experte. It's around $20, but it works great! Good luck!

What it is is a treatment that rejuvenates your hair and strengthens %26amp; repairs your hair. Rub it in after you use a regular conditioner. Put a shower cap over it, and go to bed. In the morning, rinse it out. Do this a couple times a week.

If you don't have time to do it all night, just rub it in and leave it in for 15-30 minutes.

Along with that, you should get a leave-in treatment. I recommend you spray both of these in your hair after you get out of the shower, then let your hair dry:

The best way to find the best products for your hair is to try them all. That would be pretty expensive but go over to a friends house and use some of her stuff. See how it works, and just keep trying new things. Hair may work with products from this company and not that company....it's all trial and error.

If I can suggest something, I would suggest you try a hot oil treatment....for a cheaper way to have great soft and silky hair with less frizzies, warm up some olive oil (regular cooking stuff) in the microwave and massage it into your hair while it is dry. Wrap it up in a warm towel from the drier and sit for an hour or so. Maybe give yourself a facial at the same time. Then get in the shower, and shampoo out all the oil (because water won't get the oil out--oil and water don't mix) and then condition your hair. Viola! Beautiful silky hair.

The most key thing to protecting your locks is to stay away from all heat. Yep, that means no hairdrier, no straightner, no curling iron either....It's very hard not to advert to these products but just try it for a week. Don't blow dry your hair for a week....try it. I know it's hard not to but if you stay away from things with heat such as blow driers, curling irons, straightners, etc....you will notice a HUGE change in the feel and look of your hair. It will be so much more healthy.

To make a good decision about it, take a friend YOU TRUST into a Sally's Beauty Supply store. They have hair swatches there in all sorts of colors. Grab a mirror from the mirror bin and use it. Hold up a red swatch close to your face and look at it yourself, then show your friend. Do the same with the burgandy swatch.

You'll get a real 'feel' for what color suits you best. Ask your friend for her opinion and critique yourself. Which color do you like best? If you and your friend disagree over which color to use, then use the color you like. You're the one that has to live with it!

You can always buy a Semi Permanent color to start with. That way if you don't like it, it will fade out in about a month. Then try the other color you liked. That way you'll see what you get first without having to risk using a permanent color.

I can tell you by experience that I will never again dye my hair red. Last year I decided to colour my hair red and not only it faded very quickly (it is common to all kinds of red, and I used special conditioners and shampoos to avoid that) but also when I decided to go back to my natural colour - dark brown - the red colour always shows after a few washes.

I advise you to colour in a hairdresser and pay attention to your skin tone and your natural hair colour, as it interferes with the final results.

just remember that if your hair is naturally light it doesn't contain much natural red pigment and the color will fade faster... naturally dark hair may not show the color off to it's fullest potential... if your hair is pretreated then also remember that if you have tinted dark hair color doesn't lift color only bleach can lift it... no matter what your situation is avoid rinsing hair in very warm water, the cooler the better... stay out of the sun or cover your hair... also keep hair out of chlorinated water as this also will leech the color out... try to not shampoo the hair more than every other day to prolong the tone

Along with the oil u should use some kind of light holding spray. Not a lot because you don't want buildup......... And when straightning curly hair, always use small sections...

the only thing i can think of is going to an afro salon and getting it relaxed straight..but that's permenant...the only other thing is to start with it wet and take extremely thin sections one at a time. do no use any kind of oil before straightening at all...you be frying your hair. wash your hair and put in some fabric conditioner...do not wash it out...towel dry and section accordingly.....use your irons on these thin sections and hopefully the weight of the conditioner will help dry the straightness in....hair is made up of hydrogen bonds...every time you wet your hair these are broken and as it dries they reform holding in whatever style you have put in...if you want straightness you have to break the bonds first and reform them as you dry with your irons. good luck.

It will be a bit brighter and redder shade of Mahogany. It isn't like mixing kool-aid. The new color coats the shaft, it doesn't mix with the color already there....
