How can I stop my hair from turning a brassy red from washing it with well water?

I have colored my hair Lt Brown also my natual hair color. But after a few weeks of coloring it, it turns a brassy red. I have been told it is from the well water we have at home.

You can get a shampoo called "Malibu well water action" it will help. don't use it everyday it can be to harsh on the hair. you can get it from a local salon. Also you stylist can do what is called a Malibu gel treatment for $20 or less (in most salons) that will take most or if not all of it out immediately.

sounds like you may need to use a lt ash brown...its got green in it which will hopefully counteract the red..and it should be fine i would think, the other solution is to wash your hair in bottled water..do you use a water softner on your well water? i would think that may help too

you need to boil the water before you wash your hair, i used to have the same problem, boiling it takes out the rust that is in the water, it is a pain but it helped or buy water from the store and use it

rinse your head with bottled water (big jugs of distilled) or get a water softening system...

You just might have some metal in the well water.

My brother is a silver-smith and works with silver, gold, brass .... all kinds of metal. Been in the business for about 15 years.

He went grey (cause he's 59) had long hair tied back in a pony-tail ..... but his grey hair turned green/yellow after working with the metal.

There must be metal in your water.

Hold on .... I've decided to ring him up for this question.

Ok he said that the well must have copper or iron in it. If you wash with clean hot water from a jug, kettle or shower it will not get rid of it because hot water only gets rid of germs.

He suggests that you get a sample of it and take it to a lab.

That's all you can do.

try the john freida's radiant red shampoo thing. i like it because im lazy and i dont have to like do anything afterwards. it does its magic in the shower when you shampoo and stuff. although im a brunette i have to say it made my hair richer in color and much shinier and plus i trust john freida. Pantene's brunette shampoo smelled good but it didnt really do anything much.

But yeah usu. those color-specif shampoos do the trick

good luck :]
