It can look really tacky. Different tones of brown (not too light) would be nice or a reallllly dark purple. Don't highlight in big chunks, make them subtle.

Red or orange goes best with black hair. If you have REALLY black hair, red is better. Orange goes better with browner hair. If you're ok with somethink a little wilder, purple also looks pretty good on black hair (not brown)

red and burgandy look great in black hair. the colors complement each other well if not over done.. if hair is layer skip top layer and begin in lower layers so to give the peek a boo effect..if hair is one lenght consider choppy long layers..if not place in random small sections not too chunky ...subtle yet noticeable, splash of color without over the top..

it would look great and very popular right now with fall and all...
