If you want the color to stay in your hair and be vibrant, you must bleach it first.

yeah you have to bleach your hair first or you wouldn't be able to see the fire red in your hair.

first strip it. then dye it. but red is really hard to maintain. so you'll have to dye it more often. everytime you take a shower, it looks like the scene from carrie. even if the hair dye is permanent.

I've never used RAW, but I've used Special Effects MULTIPLE times in almost every shade lol. As far as bleaching goes, it depends on how bright you want the color to be. If you want the red to show up as just a little bit of a highlighted color, then don't bleach. I put Nuclear Red in my grandma's dark brown hair and it showed up looking like natural red highlights. She works in a very professional atmosphere so it needed to still be 'natural' and 'normal'. If you want it to be bright as all hell, bleach it. I'd recommend getting the bleach kits they sell at hot topic, 30 volume. I have a feeling 40 volume would be way to strong for your color. I have super dark brown/almost black hair, and the 40 volume is way too strong, it does nothing but fry my hair. I'd also recommend using Special Effects colors instead of RAW colors, because Special Effects isn't damaging to your hair, it's actually a conditioner. Your hair will thank you for the conditioner after doing something as harsh as bleaching.

PS-if bleaching, whatever you do, do NOT leave it in until your hair is WHITE. if it gets white, youve left it in a bit too long and your hair will be a tad fried. I leave the bleach in until my hair is a pale yellow. (about this color- this is when i bleached my hair when it was dark blue - http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j150/s... )

Good Luck! =)

Yeah, those bleach kits work well.

your going to have to bleach it but be very careful. bleaching can ruin your hair permantley its permantely taking the color out of your hairs so be very careful doign that. I am pretty sure RAW is good brand if i was you i would get it professionally done!

I HIGHLY recomend you do not use RAW. Me and friends who have used it have had sooo many problems with it!

1. it fades very fast even if you bleach your hair first

and 2. the color isn't as vibrant as expected.

I would suggest bleaching your hair for the best possible outcome and then using either special effects, Nrage, of my favorite Manic Panic.

If you don't want to ruin your hair by bleaching it but still want a nice color use Manic Panic. Since it is Vegan you can leave it in your hair for hours without doing any damage and it only intensifies the color!

:D
