Dying Hair From Very Dark Brown/Red To Blonde..?

My hair is naturally mid brown, but I haven't seen that colour in years. I dyed it red in the summer, and black a month or two ago. Now the black is fading, my hair's very dark brown with a hint of red. Will I be able to dye it blonde without it looking strawberry blonde?

I was thinking of dying it back to medium brown, then using a separate blonde dye. Would this work?

I'm a hairdresser, and i've personally gone from black to blonde - it does ruin your hair, but as i work in a salon i can take the risk of knowing if it doesnt work i can keep correcting it - otherwise its a pricey process.....i recomend you wash your hair with fairy liquid before shampooing for a couple weeks, it helps to fade out colour, then go to a hairdressers and tell them your situation and they will give you suitable advice and more than likely get you to do it gradually, this way your hair wont be at risk of breaking off or burning if you go straight to blonde

hope this helps

That sounds like it would work!

I dye my hair all the time, I just went from blonde to cinnaberry/blk streaks. I think you should do it gradually. Like go maybe a light brown first and then maybe an ash and then blonde.

If i where you i would try dying it light brown and leave it that way for awhile like a month then dye it blonde! your idea my work to just try it and see!

i bleached my blue-black hair with the hope of getting rid of the black which i hated---it went orange

depending on the shade of blonde you dye your hair, it shouldn't show up as strawberry blonde unless you want it that way, then you just tell the person doing your hair.

yeah, but go to a salon they do it better

I think it would work because my hair I wanted it with blonde high lights but it went terribly wrong the bottom of my hair was medium brown the top was blonde but not strawberry blonde. That may sound awful but it wasn't strawberry blonde.Yes you can go with your idea because it worked for me once so trust me. Oh and by the way go to a salon and get it done it will turn up much better, and also it says this is chris it's really kristen i'm his daughter so it's not coming from a guy.

You won't be able to go to blonde in one step, so maybe do the medium brown first, let your hair rest for a few weeks, then use a lift kit to go blonde. You might need to bleach the hair twice to avoid any red/brassy tones.

NO !!

Do not try to go from your color now to blonde yourself, you will have orange(possibly green) hair. and even IF you can get it blonde you'd have to fry it which I don't recomend. If you really badly want to go blonde you have 2 options...

1. Go to Sally's and get Wella bleach and follow the direction on the box (leave it on for 45-60 mins) and then a few days later do it again...you'll be blonde but you'll have totally ruined your hair.

2. Go to a sallon tell them about all your past dyes and they will safely lift you to a nice blonde color with minimal damage.

I've done it both ways and now my long heathy hair is short due to cutting off the damage and letting it grow back...so I'd go for the sallon if I were you.

You need to go to a professional hairdresser when you are making such a drastic change. They will strip the colour out of your hair first and then put in the new colour. Dont attempt this yourself as your hair may get very damaged or even fall out.

I have dyed black hair and asked the hairdresser about having blonde streaks, so i presume the answer she gave me would apply here. She told me that dying my hair blonde over black dye would make it a gingery colour, I'd have to keep dying it blonde until it was the colour I wanted.

A study by the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Athens Medical Schools suggested that women who use hair dyes five or more times a year have twice the risk of developing ovarian cancer. Most permanent hair dyes contain potential irritants and carcinogens like formaldehyde and ammonia. Petroleum-based coal tar derivatives and phenylenediamine cause cancer. Products containing phenylenediamine can cause blindness if the solution drips into eyes. Dr. Samuel Epstein, chairman, Cancer Prevention Coalition, says the use of hair dye places women at increased risk of certain cancers, especially leukemia, non-Hodgkin閳ユ獨 lymphoma, multiple myeloma and Hodgkin閳ユ獨 disease. He states there is strong evidence that the use of hair colouring products accounts for up to 20 percent of all non-Hodgkin閳ユ獨 lymphoma cases in U.S. women, and that there is suggestive evidence these products increase breast cancer risk. Dark and black colours are particularly toxic.

No it will not work. First of all one does not "dye" hair blonde. To "dye" is to go darker. To "lighten", "highlight", or "bleach" is to go lighter. You already have dark dye on your hair...a blonde color will not lift that old dye out of your hair. Color does not lift color. What you are wanting should never be attempted at home.
