I stripped my hair so to make it red. Will it fade?

I have naturally medium brown hair and then dyed it dark brown. I wanted it to be red, like "Tori Amos Red" (hehe)... anyway, when my stylist dyed it my hair was too dark and it just sorta turned purple. so she stripped it. it turned out the perfect red underneath, exactly what I wanted. However the roots were bleach blonde. All she had to do was dye the roots to match. My question is, since it is stripped, will it fade more or stay the color it is now? i wonder because the roots were blonde. why is that? if it will fade will i need to get it dyed to keep it the color it is now.

ps - i would also appreciate not getting any responses about how hideous you think that color would look or any bashing of Tori Amos because I very much respect her, love her hair, and the color mine is now. You dont have to like it/her, but i just dont want to hear any bashing. Thanks.

It'll fade if you wash it. Hope this helps. Tori Amos RULES!

Yes,unfortunatly it will fade a lot so go to a very nice hair product store and get a very strong shampoo and conditionor for red or color treated hair. GOOD luck!

To start with - when she stripped the hair, she stripped all color out of it. That's why the roots are so light. The red will hold better that way but red fades. Trust me, I know. I've been a redhead for years. Red is the hardest color to keep. Spend the cash on some really good shampoo and conditioner - not Pantene! Get the color stuff at a salon and it will help keep the red.

No matter what the base color it will fade all the same. Your roots will be dark again, but I don't think you will have to strip it anymore. I am sure the color is great. Use an anti-fading shampoo like Biolage or Dove and you can prolong the color. Peace.

My friend, who is a stylist, recommends either Tresemme' color thrive shampoo and conditioner or Pantene for red heads.

The 'stripped' portion of the hair will fade less than the actual 'coloured' portion of the hair. The stripped part of the hair is a result of a lightening process. The coloured part of your hair shaft will likely fade quicker because red colour molecules are the smallest and were ADDED to your pre-lightened base. It sounds like you are in the desired colour range you wanted, protect your hair from the sun and use a colour safe shampoo. You may only need a single application of tint the next time you see your hairdresser!
