You can get a lot out if you put your hair under really hot water. After that just wash it a lot. That should take most of it out.

Actually, i've had the same problem, it was like a metallic red dye that just wouldn't leave. My suggestion is, if youre up for it, to strip the color out of your hair, either professionally or at home. Then, choose a base color like an ash brown to dye.

If you want to get blonde... go to a hair saloon. Don't do anything, you might end up carrot coloured or pink...

If you opt for dark hair, get a dark brown dye and simply colour it over the red. You will get a nice deep auburn look and the red will not be as prominent.

Or use black, that way you'll cover the red entirely.
