I have bleached hair and dyed it bright red, the color will not stay in.?

I had my hair bleached a very light blonde for awhile and last month I had it dyed bright red. I waited a week before washing it and it turned this yucky pink color, and now after about three times washing it it looks pretty bad. I use color safe products and cold water to wash my hair, because I heard that helps. I've been putting baby powder in it between washes so it won't look greasy but I don't like doing it all of the time. I'm getting it redone this saturday, but any tips for keeping the color longer, or is just because this is the first time it was dyed over the blonde?

Your hair is probably really damaged and won't hold color anymore. When you bleach hair, the bleach causes the cuticle of the hair (the outermost scales of the hairstrand) to open up to let the haircolor in. After the hair is conditioned, the cuticle closes again and the haircolor stays. If the cuticle won't close - color with wash out within days. There is no way to get your cuticle to close and your color to stay besides to stop coloring it and let it get healthy again by regrowing it! What probably happened with you is that your cuticle won't close because of the coloring and styling damage done to it (hair is not indestructible!). The best thing to do is to let your hair regrow without chemicals and have healthy hair before you start to color it again.

red in general is a hard color to take care of..

try the shampoos for redheads..though hard to find (at least in my opinion.) will keep the color in longer.

Um, I don't think that was permanent dye, because it faded. Specifically ask for permanent haircolour that will stay in. Talk to the hairdresser about why it wouldn't stay in, and tips to help it stay in. You could get it stripped, or even wait until it grows out.

unfortunately the bleached hair is damaged and cannot hold the same way that healthy hair can hold color i guess id say best bet is not to wash you hair every day, basically the oils are stripped from your hair so the depositing of color fades fast. maybe try doing a couple of hot oil treatments oh and keep you intake of vitamin e and b12 up it restores hair or strengthens it also remember bright colors will fade no matter what try going less bright till your hair can restore its natural balance then after the bleach has resided or died down then the bright color will stay

I would never dye my hair so I cannot help you. My sisters dye their hair and the color has never just came out. Maybe you are doing something wrong and not following the directions. I don't know what to say.

I dont know.....try using L'Oreal colour rays... Usually if your hair is blonde it the red will fade and turn pink.

as another respondent has suggested, you may have used a level one hair colour (washes out in 6-12 shampoos) or a level 2 (washes out in 12-24 shampoos) when you should have used a level 3 (permanent) hair colour...also, you are reprocessing hair that is already damaged by bleaching.

Well red is always a bleeder no matter what you do... Reds don't stay in that good they fade... Once you go get your hair done ask your stylist for suggestions... You can also try color refreshers and lots of conditioning are essential. But if you have a pink-based skin tone or dark features such as eyebrows or eyes you should avoid the color all together.
