I really want to dye my hair bright red..(how)?

to get a bright red that you want you will have to bleach it...because the lighter the hair the more color it will take...and because your hair is brittle...coloring is not gonna help out the problem it will make your hair worse....i have had highlights twice and it drys out your hair pretty quick...you might want to wait until your hair is healthy again and then talk to a pro to see if they recommend bleaching/dying it....and its better to go to a salon to get it done than to do it yourself because i have seen alot of horrible DIY hair coloring......also i have used a permanent dye (reddish brown) over my natural black hair...and you can only see it a little in the sun/light....so anyways the best thing is to do it WAIT UNTIL YOUR HAIR IS HEALTHY!!!!!!

I'd go to a salon--they will be more expensive than doing it at home but you'll have less damage to your hair that way.

yes, your hair is probably too dark to properly take the bright red coloring. I would try some intensive conditioner for a few weeks before bleaching it.

Manic Panic makes some pretty cool bright red hair dye.

i would lighten it a little, like to an amber color then use Manic Panic. you can find it at Hot Topic and Spencer's. it's semi-permanent so if you dont like it it'll fade out quicker. it's made with vegetable and plant based color, so it doesnt really damage your hair. i've been using it for about a year.

Dyeing your hair will just make the problem worse.

There are different levels of bleach, basically, and you'd need a lower volume for less time... to bring down the color before you put the red in it. A salon for ethnic hair would be great at determining exactly what your hair needs... however, some boxed colors at drugstores can deposit a little bleach and color at the same time. Just look for the color you want and see if it has a before pic of your natural color and how it will turn out... if it doesn't show your natural color, though, it probably won't get the results your looking for. But due to the condition your hair is in, I'd go with a professional. Good luck!!!
